YASEMİN ÖZCAN

Yasemin Özcan was born in İstanbul in 1974. She studied at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University Department of Ceramics and Glass. Working in different mediums such as photography, video, sound, ceramics, presentation, performance and text, Özcan elaborates on forms of existence, movements, and the performances of objects, individuals, and institutions, while her works give references to the issues of identity, cultural policies, gender, esotericism and psychology. She is recently working with ceramic materials to explore the relation between living things and earth, as well as labour and craft. Her works have been exhibited in many institutions and galleries like Galerie Nord–Kunstverein Tiergarten, Berlin, Germany; nGbK Berlin, Berlin, Germany; SALT Beyoğlu, Istanbul, Turkey; Arter, Istanbul, Turkey; WKV Stuttgart, Stuttgart, Germany; Wiener Secession, Vienna, Austria; CCS Bard, New York, USA; Rodeo İstanbul, Istanbul, Turkey; Total Museum of Contemporary Art, Seoul, South Korea; İstanbul Modern, Istanbul, Turkey; Kunstmuseum Bochum, Bochum, Germany; DEPO, Istanbul, Turkey and Ludwig Forum, Aachen, Germany. She participated in artist residency programs of the Berlin Senate, nGbK–DEPO, Berlin, Germany (2019); Cité internationale des arts – İKSV, Paris, France (2012) and Can Xalant Centre for the Creation of Visual Arts and Contemporary Thought-Platform Garanti, Mataró, Spain (2009).
