SİBİL ÇEKMEN

Sibil Çekmen was born in Istanbul in 1983. She completed her undergraduate degree at Bilgi University, Department of Cinema-TV. Çekmen worked as a reporter in the weekly political Armenian-Turkish newspaper Agos, as a project assistant in Anadolu Kültür, as an editor and anchor-woman in İMC TV. She worked as a freelance translator and fixer on different workshops, book, documentary, and photography projects. Çekmen got her MA in Film Studies at Université Lumière Lyon 2, France and completed her Ph.D. at the same university with her doctoral dissertation titled ‘The Emergence and Evolution of Documentary Cinema of Resistance in Turkey (2003-2017)’. Currently giving lectures on ‘Films and Borders’, ‘Creative Political Documentary’ and ‘Cultural Mediation’, she has been working as a consultant for documentary projects since 2020.
