Civan Er was born in Istanbul in 1978. He studied at Istanbul High School and then graduated from Marmara University, Department of Economics. He went to London for a post-graduate degree yet decided to work in the kitchen. Between 2003 and 2012, he worked as a professional chef. Between 2009 and 2012, he wrote a column featuring his own signature recipes in a national newspaper Hürriyet Pazar, and after that, he used these recipes for the inauguration menu of his restaurant Yeni Lokanta [New Restaurant], which he founded in 2012, in Istanbul. In 2019, he opened his restaurant Yeni [New] in Soho, London. He currently works as the chef and the manager of both restaurants.
